JOB PURPOSE

The Head of Research - Equity is responsible for leading and managing a team of analysts, overseeing research across sectors and asset classes to support investment decisions. Key duties include developing research strategies, ensuring high-quality market and company analysis, and collaborating with portfolio management on investment opportunities and risk assessment. The role involves regular interaction with stakeholders, including clients and investors, as well as fostering innovation in research processes. Additionally, the role ensures compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in equity research, financial modeling, and team leadership.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Leadership & Management:

  • Lead a team of analysts across sectors and asset classes, ensuring a high standard of research and analysis.
  • Set goals, provide mentorship, and conduct regular performance reviews for the research team.
  • Maintain and improve research productivity through streamlined processes, tools, and templates.
  • Manage research resources effectively, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
Research Strategy & Oversight:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive research strategy aligned with investment objectives.
  • Oversee and guide sector and company-specific research across multiple asset classes.
  • Ensure thorough analysis of market trends, macroeconomic factors, and emerging sectors.
  • Lead the research team in producing reports, models, and insights that drive investment decisions.
  • Moderate daily and weekly research meetings to review performance, discuss market trends, and generate actionable investment ideas.
Portfolio Contribution & Investment Ideation:
  • Collaborate with the portfolio management team to identify investment opportunities, assess risks, and make informed decisions.
  • Provide inputs on portfolio construction, asset allocation, and risk management strategies.
  • Analyse financial models and valuation methodologies to support investment thesis.
  • Contribute to regular portfolio reviews, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall
  • investment philosophy and strategy.
Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including clients, brokers, and investment bankers, to gather insights and communicate research outputs.
  • Present research findings and investment theses to senior management, clients, and institutional investors.
  • Actively participate in investor meetings, sharing insights on macroeconomic and sector-specific trends.
  • Also engage the regulator/s with their queries and statutory presentations.
Innovation & Process Improvement:
  • Develop and implement proprietary research methodologies and tools for efficient data analysis and decision-making.
  • Continuously improve research processes, leveraging technology to enhance data extraction, analysis, and visualization.
  • Encourage innovative thinking and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the research team.
Compliance & Governance:
  • Ensure all research activities comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of research processes, methodologies, and outputs for audit and compliance purposes.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 10 years plus experience in Equity Research as Research Analyst in an AMC.
  • Work experience in leading a research team and managing cross-sectoral research functions, preferably as an HoR.
  • Proven track record of generating high-quality investment ideas and contributing to successful portfolio outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of financial modeling, valuation techniques, and market analysis.
  • Experience interacting with senior management, clients, and institutional investors.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Chartered Accountant or MBA.
  • CFA will be an added advantage.
